Full Professor at the Brazilian School of Public and Business Administration at Getulio Vargas Foundation (FGV EBAPE) and columnist for the newspaper Estado de São Paulo. He is CNPq's 1D Researcher. He completed his doctorate in Political Science at New School / New York University in 2000 and completed his postdoctoral studies at the University of Oxford. Recently, he was Edward Laroque Tinker Visiting Professor at Stanford University (CAPES Senior Internship); Visiting Scholar of the Hertie School of Governance, Berlin. He was also Visiting Fellow in the Foreign Policy and Global Economy and Development programs in the Latin American Initiative at Brookings Institution, Washington-DC; and Resident Fellow at the Bellagio Center of the Rockefeller Foundation, Italy. He was also Assistant Professor at the Department of Political Science at Michigan State University and full Professor at the School of Economics of São Paulo at Getulio Vargas Foundation (FGV EESP). He worked as a visiting professor in the economics department at the University of São Paulo (USP) and at Colby College-Maine, in the USA. In addition, he was an adjunct researcher in the Department of Social Sciences of the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation. He also has extensive experience as a consultant and researcher for international agencies such as the Inter-American Development Bank-IADB, the World Bank, and the Department for International Development (DFID), UK.
